The Business Tsunami Mindset

Working Paper
A business tsunami is a major disruptive event that seems to hit a business out of nowhere with disastrous effects, although in retrospect one will find that it has been quietly building up pressure and strength in some peripheral part of the business for considerable time. How well a company responds to such a business tsunami depends on quite a number of things: (1) how early it makes sense of the impending disaster, (2) how quickly it decides upon an appropriate course of action, (3) how well and quickly it manages to implement these decisions and (4) how well it learns from previous tsunami and how it dealt with them. This paper analyses business tsunami and the need to accelerate the management decision cycle to respond to them. It uses ASML as a case study.
