Valuable discoveries in economic life are not effortless. But chance happens, although it is not for “free”. Serendipity is about the dynamics of happy accidents and organizing for serendipity is the deliberation to becoming for such unexpected events that lead to breakthroughs.
In this contribution, serendipity is defined and the slow adoption of the concept is explained. The value for organizations and economies of harnessing serendipity is articulated and underlined, along with suggestions about how this might be achieved.
