Q1 2022-2023 activity update

HGIBS turned 4!

We proudly celebrated our 4th anniversary as an institute. We are looking forward to our 5th year as we enter the final year of our current strategy.

We published 3 Crossroad opinion papers on the pandemic and gender, the macroeconomic outlook, and greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

We worked with faculty to produce 3 opinion papers. Professor Antonio Fatas explored how current global political events have created a Perfect Macroeconomic Storm. Taking research from our most recent Alumni Survey, Zoe Kinias (former Academic Director of the INSEAD Gender Initiative) examined how the Pandemic had dealt a blow to gender balance. Lastly, Professor Atalay Aatsu and Attila Cselotei laid out the step-by-step process INSEAD is following to reduce GHG emissions.

We hosted HGIBS Faculty Luncheons on our two campuses to better identify how to support faculty on their sustainability work.

Held on both Europe and Asia campuses, we hosted faculty luncheons to better understand how HGIBS can support the research and work of faculty.

We kicked off another series of Les Conférences de l’INSEAD and launched a website archiving past content

The latest series of our French language conference ‘Les Conference de l’INSEAD’ kicked off in September. Open to the local community of Fontainebleau, Henri-Claude de Bettignies hosted debates on topics such as health and wellbeing at work, and green growth. We also launched a new dedicated website for Les Conferences including a selection of audios from past conferences.

We held the fourth SDG Week on two campuses with 7 clubs and 1300 registrants.

For the fourth year, the Hoffmann Institute, INSEAD student clubs and our partner, Accenture Strategy organised SDG Week to showcase how business can drive progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Held across both campuses we hosted 10 hybrid events with 40 guest speakers and 1320 registrants. Conversations included ‘Climate Change – Impact on Africa’, ‘Investing Inclusion’ and ‘Exploring New Business Models for a Sustainable Economy’. We also celebrated the launch of the 9th annual GTCI report within our programme. You can now watch the recordings of our sessions or read in detail our wrap up post.

We welcomed the launch of Business Schools for Climate Leadership Africa at COP27 modeled after BS4CL Europe launched last year in Glasgow

Business Schools for Climate Leadership Africa (BS4CL Africa) was launched at COP27, bringing together business schools around a collaborative framework for climate action to transform business education curricula that matches the needs and adapts to the realities of the African continent. The model for this initiative was inspired by the BS4CL group launched by 8 leading business schools in Europe at COP26 last year. The BS4L initiative also held an in-person meeting to identify its 3-year priorities. The group also hosted a webinar dedicated to COP15, exploring the global biodiversity framework and mobilizing the private sector.

We contributed to UN PRME France & Benelux, the AACSB Conference, and the Building Bridges Conference

The Annual UN PRME meeting was hosted by Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University on 13th and 14th October 2022. The 2-day event offered an excellent opportunity for students, sustainability representatives of schools and stakeholders to combine forces, ideas and share experiences. The Hoffmann Institute’s Partnership Manager presented the recent updates of the Institutes and spoke about how multi-stakeholder partnerships can accelerate the delivery of the mission of the Institute and the SDGs. At AACSB’s first Societal Impact Conference, we presented the work of the Hoffmann Institute on societal impact, sharing our experiences across business schools working to integrate sustainability into their activities. Read the write-up of the conference.

We partnered with Les Echos for a conversation on CSR as a lever for talent

The Hoffmann Institute was present at the Les Echos debate on ‘CSR as a level to attract talent’ and our students took part by addressing  the panel with a question on how companies are evolving their CSR policies to attract graduating students. The panel was composed of representatives from ANDRH, HEIP and SAFRAN. You can watch the replay of the session and sign up for the next debate on the topic of ‘L’Alimentation Responsible’ where INSEAD student Vincent Boca will be representing us.

We published our 2021-22 Annual Report

Our annual report from 2021-2022 academic year looks back and reflects on our actions and accomplishments: from our engagement with over 4000 participants in 17 events, to our support on the publication of 19 research projects, 10 opinion papers and 31 stories on business and society. Our work was more relevant than ever, and we look forward to more collective work on sustainability!

We supported the launch of INSEAD’s Scope 3 emission reduction process

INSEAD has started the Scope 3 consultation process with the goal to identify the levers, potential actions that could contribute to reducing Scope 3 emissions. A Steering Committee and a Faculty Advisory Group have been assembled to push the process forward.

Finally, we joined the Global Reporting Initiative community to improve our sustainability reporting practices

In search of improving our practices on sustainability reporting and strategy, our school has joined the GRI Community – a network of organizations around the world connecting to share their expertise on reporting, with access to a myriad of resources on the topic’s latest developments. As one of the only business schools to be part of the GRI Community, it offers an interesting platform to highlight what we do to a broader audience.

That’s it for the first quarter. Looking ahead, you are all warmly invited to save the date to join us for:

  • Les Echos debateL’alimentation responsible’ (December 13th)
  • Les Conference de l’INSEADLa croissance verte : est-elle vraiment ‘pour’ la nature? (December 15th)
  • The SDG tent in Davos where faculty will lead conversations on universal healthcare in developing countries and ‘Income and Impact’ (18th and 19th January)
  • Health Week 2023 (30th January to 2nd February)

To get the latest on all our activities, follow us on social media.

Thank you for joining us on this journey to make sustainability everybody’s business.

Once again, we wish you a happy and healthy holiday season.

See you the new year!
