Biography

Thomas Hellwig is an adjunct professor for Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD. He is an experienced teacher and programme director, designing learning journeys for senior executive from a wide range of different companies and sectors. He also works as a researcher and independent consultant/coach.
He brings along a strong educational background with a double degree as a medical doctor and a doctorate in psychotherapy as well as a business degree (MBA from INSEAD).

Thomas has been associated with INSEAD for more than 15 years. He regularly teaches in the MBA, open enrolment, and company specific programmes. His teaching focus in executive education covering different topics of leadership and organisational behaviour. His special interests are on executive teams, leading change and stress & resilience.

Thomas is passionate about interactive teaching: He has received the reward for outstanding teaching in the Executive Education and is the INSEAD board member of the International School of Management Business (ISBM). He has directed the International Teachers Programme including classroom, virtual, hybrid and experiential learning methods.

He has worked in management education with senior executives, both as a consultant and in executive education. His international clients are senior executives from a variety of industries including healthcare, pharmacological, automotive, banking, petrochemical, consulting and service industry, telecommunication and electronic, airlines, IT, family enterprises and NGOs.

Thomas is a dedicated and experienced medical doctor: He leverages his first-hand experience from managing high-performing medical teams in stressful situations (emergency, cardiology and cancer medicine). He is a still practicing clinical physician in a public hospital handling emergency situations.

His doctorate in psychotherapy allows him to have the depth and experience to help his clients to handle difficult psychological situations. He is a change practitioner and graduate from the Tavistock Institute for group relations (London). He obtained a certificate in “Body and Mind Medicine” from the Harvard Medical School and a certificate in stress management from the British Psychological Society. He is trained and experienced in family business consulting and executive coaching.

Thomas lives in France and is involved in programmes throughout Europe, the US and Asia. He speaks fluently English, French, Spanish and German, his native language. Thomas and his Spanish wife have three children. His leisure activities include endurance sports, salsa dancing and cooking.
