Year Graduated: 2016
Current Role: Global Insights & Strategic Planning Manager, Fonterra
Everyone brought their own experiences to the class, which really helped to bring the theories and case studies to life.
What made you decide to do an EMBA? Why the INSEAD EMBA?
I was interested to have a broader perspective of business management (such as finance, operations, etc) so as to position myself for more senior leadership roles. It has always been my dream to study at INSEAD, one of the top business schools in the world that is also known for its international diversity.
Do share with us your class experiences.
Stimulating! Everyone brought their own experiences to the class, which really helped to bring the theories and case studies to life. You have people from diverse industries and cultural backgrounds, which created a very rich exchange of ideas and opinions. I have learnt so much through the interactions with my classmates.
How has the EMBA helped you in your career?
The EMBA was more of a personal journey me. It provided the space and tools to help me reflect on my life along very pertinent questions - who am I, what kind of leader do I want to be, what experiences inspire me, etc. This self-awareness made me a better manager at work, and also got me thinking about where I want to be in the next 5 -10 years of my career.
How did you juggle studies and your busy work schedule at the same time?
Disciplined time management! It also helps that I had a very understanding boss who gave me time off during the EMBA programme.
How has the INSEAD EMBA helped you changed your life/perspectives?
INSEAD has definitely expanded my view of the world and the opportunities that abound. One of my biggest takeaways was that the world is much bigger than what I had imagined. I also learnt to see the world in a more multi-faceted perspective - from the lenses of different business functions, organisation stakeholders and cultures.
What are your thoughts on the multi-campus experience during your electives and KMCs?
There is still a degree of homogeneity within each campus, so meeting people from other campuses really added another dimension of diversity. Personally, it pushed me to get out of my 'social' comfort zone.
Did the Leadership Development Programme (LDP) make an impact on you?
The executive coach who was assigned to my LDP group was very perceptive and was great in helping me unlock some personal blind spots.
What is one key takeaway you have gotten from the programme?
The network of friends. There is an implicit bonding and camaraderie that is forged from having gone through the EMBA journey and shared experience.
What advice will you give to potential participants looking to do an INSEAD EMBA?
Be fully immersed in the programme. This is a safe space for you to explore and experiment, and meet some really smart and fascinating people. Get out of your comfort zone and put yourself out there. Make full use of this opportunity as this would probably be an experience of a lifetime.
