Share with us your background!

I am a Chemical Engineer with 17 years experience in the Upstream Oil and Gas industry. I worked out of Malaysian Borneo, Kuala Lumpur and Houston. I am currently seconded to a Joint-Venture company, comprising of Shell, ConocoPhillips and Petronas. I lead a team of engineers responsible for sales allocation, production planning, plant and wells reliability; with the main goal of meeting delivery targets to the domestic and international energy markets.

What made you decide to take on the EMCCC programme at INSEAD?

I revere INSEAD - for the prestige, connections, quality of education and opportunities. I was never very interested in Business and hence, an MBA is not what I was looking for. I read about EMCCC while researching for a post-grad programme that focuses more on leadership, management and people organisation and from the description I read, it seems that EMCCC was an ideal fit!

How has the EMCCC changed your perspectives or outlook towards life?

EMCCC thought me how to "view from the balcony", i.e., reflect a lot in my work and life. On a more personal front, during this programme, I reached an epiphany to "let go" of demons from the past. Through this, I mended a few relationships that I realised mattered. In addition, I am more mindful of my actions and its effect on people around me.

How different is the EMCCC as compared to other Masters programmes out there?

I only have gone through another technical master and both cannot be compared. I am not aware of other programmes with the same grain of EMCCC.

What advice would you give to potential EMCC participants?

I have had the privilege to speak to other potential participants who wanted to know more about the programme and how it fits in their career. My advice is to immerse yourself fully in the syndicates, discussions and classes. There are many different aspects that are relevant to both work and life. Examples include inner-reflections, organisational behaviours, change management and writing your life "story".
