The scheme is open to mid-career candidates who are Singapore citizens or Singapore permanent residents and are currently unemployed. They are graduates which must NOT be from the 2019 and 2020 cohort. This is a full-time position with a 9-month contract.
Senior Research Associates (EPS area)
This position is designed for graduates who want to gain research experiences or prepare themselves to apply for other graduate degrees, including Master of Science or doctoral degrees, or any other research positions in government research facilities or any other research institutions.
The Economics and Political Science Department at INSEAD is looking for a full-time Researcher to work as a Research Associate (Area Researcher) on INSEAD’s Singapore campus. The main task is to assist the Economics faculty in conducting research. The Research Associate will work closely with the professors. The work environment is informal and exciting
Potential projects include a range of business and policy-related topics such as understanding of trade patterns, growth, productivity, firm’s location, inequality, etc.
The ideal candidate will have strong data management and data analysis skills, particularly software packages such as STATA, Matlab, Python, R and ARCGIS. Skills in STATA are especially valuable. Previous research experience in relevant topics using these software packages is preferred.
Tasks expected from the Research Associate:
1. Assist with quantitative research projects. Maintain databases and extract data from different databases for analysis. Maintain the status of various projects and their corresponding completion dates.
2. Develop models and programming with programs such as STATA, Matlab, Python, R and ARCGIS. Perform statistical analysis including running regressions. Assist with data entry and maintain computer data sets with appropriate analytic programs
3. Conduct literature review. Gather, organize and summarize relevant academic papers.
The position is ideal for a recent university or Masters graduate looking to develop their research skills in economics, management and finance research in view of applying for a PhD program. It will provide the candidate with great preparation for PhD programme entry by training the applicant in doing research, giving him/her access to some PhD training and developing a relationship with potential letter writers. Our recent pre-doc researchers have been admitted to PhDs at Kellogg School of Management, INSEAD, Sciences Po, LSE, Toulouse School of Economics, Stockholm School of Economics, among others. This traineeship is also good opportunity for students who are keen in pursuing research careers.
Competencies trainee will learn during SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme:
Active participation in the research project planning process, including developing research goals, objectives and empirical testing
Research Data Analysis
Develop writing, analytical and methodological skills
Develop interpersonal & communication skills
Gain critical thinking skills and prepare them for a career in research or PhD
Participate in research-related events such as seminars and workshops to stay connected with the frontiers of the fields
At least a Degree Bachelor's or Master’s degree in economics, business, statistics, mathematics, finance, computer science, or engineering preferred.
Previous research experience is a strong plus.
Excellent academic record and work ethic required.
Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills in English required.
Enthusiasm for research required. Knowledge of STATA is necessary as well as an interest in learning other relevant computer software and statistics packages (e.g. R, Matlab, Python, ARCGIS, etc).
