Biography
Jason Acimovic is an Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management at The Smeal College of Business at Penn State University, and Visiting Scholar at INSEAD for the 2022-2023 academic year. He received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Operations Research Center and his B.S. in Physics from Yale University. Before joining academia, he worked in credit card operations and humanitarian logistics. His teaching at Smeal focuses on modeling, analytics, and demand fulfillment in the context of operations.
Jason’s research applies network optimization and operations research to non-traditional supply chains, with a specific focus on the management of inventory. Recent projects include: developing optimization-based metrics for disaster relief organizations, empirically quantifying the impact of transportation capacity in disaster relief, creating (and field-testing) heuristics for mobile money agents in Tanzania, and improving demand fulfillment decisions for omni-channel and online retailers. His work has appeared in journals such as the ASA’s Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, and Journal of Operations Management.
Jason’s research has been recognized with the INFORMS Dantzig Dissertation Award, the CSCMP Doctoral Dissertation Award, and the M&SOM Best Paper Award, while his instruction has been recognized with a Teaching Excellence Award at Smeal.
