Biography

Guillaume Roels is the Timken Chaired Professor of Global Technology and Innovation at INSEAD and the Research Director of the INSEAD-Wharton Alliance. His current research focuses on the management of operations for knowledge-intensive services and on supply chain management. He is teaching courses on operations excellence, supply chain management, service operations, and project management in the full-time MBA, Executive MBA, and various executive education programmes. He is currently the director of the Long Form Online COO Programme. He is currently serving as the Editor-in-Chief of Service Science and the President of the M&SOM Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (TIE) Specific Interest Group (SIG). Prior to joining INSEAD, he was an Associate Professor at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. He received an MS degree in Management Engineering and a DEA in Management from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and a PhD in Operations Research from MIT.

Professor Roels has published in various academic journals including Management Science, Operations Research and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management. His work received numerous research awards, including second place in the 2005 MSOM Student Paper Competition, an honourable mention in the 2007 Best Paper in the INFORMS Transportation Science & Logistics Award Competition, second place in the 2009 INFORMS Service Science Best Paper Competition, first place in the 2013 INFORMS Service Science Best Paper Competition, an honourable mention in the 2013 INFORMS Behavioral Operations Section Best Working Paper Award, an honourable mention in the INFORMS Service Science Best Published Paper Award, a finalist position on the 2023 POMS College of Service Operations Management Best Student Paper Competition, a finalist position in the 2023 INFORMS Social Media Analytics Best Student Paper Competition, and a second place in the 2023 INFORMS Service Science Cluster Best Paper Competition. He also received the Eric and “E” Juline Faculty Excellence in Research Award at the UCLA Anderson.

His POM core was nominated Best Core Course by the GEMBA 22 and 23 students. His elective on Competitive Supply Chains was nominated Best Elective on Fontainebleau Campus by the 18D, 19D and 23J MBA students. He received the Dean’s Commendation for Teaching Excellence in 2018-19, 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23. At UCLA Anderson, he received the George L. Robbins Assistant Professor Teaching Award in 2009, the Citibank Teaching Excellence Award in 2010, and the Executive MBA Outstanding Teaching Award in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017. While visiting Wharton in 2012, he received the “Tough but I will thank you in 5 years” award. He was named one of the Poets & Quants 2015 Best 40 Business School Professors under 40.
