Inauguration of the INSEAD-Sorbonne University Distinguished Visiting Chair in Behavioural Sciences
30 January 2018
Paris
Welcome
INSEAD and Sorbonne University have pleasure in inviting you to join us for the inauguration of The INSEAD-Sorbonne University Distinguished Visiting Chair in Behavioural Sciences in the Grand Amphithéâtre of the Sorbonne on Tuesday 30 January 2018 at 18:30. Please note that the event will take place in English, however simultaneous translation will be available.
The goal of the Visiting Chair is to promote behavioural research at Sorbonne University, based on the extended expertise of the INSEAD Behavioural Lab.
Professor Wendy Wood, the first recipient of this Visiting Chair, will give an inaugural lecture on “Habits: Understanding Ourselves and Other Consumers”. The lecture will be preceded by a brief welcome by Jean Chambaz, Président, Sorbonne Université and Barthélémy Jobert, Président honoraire de l'université Paris-Sorbonne, Peter Zemsky, Deputy Dean of INSEAD and Pierre Chandon, Director, INSEAD Sorbonne University Behavioural Lab, to which the Visiting Chair will be linked.
Habits: Understanding Ourselves and Other Consumers
We all realize we have habits, but we know little about how they work. Most of the habits we recognize are the bad ones that get in our way. When we are aware of our good habits, they can seem mundane and boring. In actuality, about 43% of what we do every day is habitual. And as you will learn in this lecture, it’s an important 43%.
Professor Wood will explain how habits work and why we know so little about them. Understanding the psychology of habit turns out to be central for changing—and maintaining—consumer behaviour. With an understanding of consumer habits, businesses can better predict the success and failure of new products. Participants will leave this lecture with new insights into the automatic mechanisms driving their own and others’ actions.
A few of the ideas that will be discussed during this lecture can be found in this short video:
We encourage you to register for what promises to be an exciting and impactful event.
