Towards Sustainability: A New Curriculum for Boards

8-9 April 2019
Fontainebleau, Europe Campus
Towards Sustainability: A New Curriculum for Boards
Held by the INSEAD Corporate Governance Centre (ICGC), the Hoffmann Global Institute for Business and Society (HGIBS) and World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)
The environmental, social and governance paradigms of the modern business world have shifted dramatically over the last few years as we experience unprecedented threats coming from climate change, ecosystem degradation, geopolitical uncertainties and digital disruption, just to name the most common ones.
Forces from multiple stakeholders are putting unprecedented pressure and scrutiny on boards of directors and governance practices to ensure business is conducted responsibly and effectively takes into account sustainable economic performance and societal and environmental impact.
“Maximising shareholder value alone is no longer acceptable in the modern world. Boards of directors have to exercise fiduciary duty of care for the organisation they govern, for its performance, but also for the multiple relationships with economic, social, political actors and partners” – Ludo Van der Heyden, INSEAD Chaired Professor of Corporate Governance and founding director of INSEAD Corporate Governance Centre.
In line with INSEAD’s vision to advocate and contribute to “business as a force for good”, INSEAD Corporate Governance Centre together with Hoffmann Global Institute for Business and Society have collaborated with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) to jointly host the inaugural "Towards Sustainability: A New Curriculum for Boards" Conference. This high impact two-day event aims to address sustainability from multi-level perspectives including both macro and micro approaches with a particular focus on boards’ responsibilities and on validating what a curriculum for board members committed to such a responsibility might look like.
Save the date and join us as we bring together faculty experts, regulators, NGOs, investors, board of directors and business leaders to scan the global sustainability landscape, examine the different dimensions of the debate, and address organizational and boardroom challenges in leading the sustainability agenda for long-term economic performance and positive societal impact.
