Recent PhD Student Awards

Tong Wang (Decision Sciences) won the First Prize of the 2007 Student Paper Competition of the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society (MSOM) of INFORMS for his paper "Inventory Management with Advance Demand Information and Flexible Delivery", co-authored with Beril Toktay. view

Zsolt Katona (Marketing) won the 2007 MSI Alden G. Clayton Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Competition for his submission, "Buying and Selling Traffic: The Internet as an Advertising Medium". (Dissertation chair: M. Sarvary). View

Zsolt Katona (Marketing) and Joseph Lajos (Marketing) won the ACR Best Working Paper Award in the Association for Consumer Research North American Conference, Orlando, USA, in September 2006, for their paper entitled:

"CAM: A Spreading Activation Network Model of Subcategory Construction," (written with INSEAD faculty:  A. Chattopadhyay and M. Sarvary)

Govert Vroom (Strategy)

Best Dissertation Award (Academy of Management, 2006)

Govert Vroom won the Business Policy and Strategy Division Best Dissertation Award with his dissertation entitled:

"Strategic Incentive Systems: A Theoretical and Empirical Investigation of Managerial Incentives and Competitive Interaction."

Vincent Onyemah (Marketing)

Seventh Annual Doctoral Dissertation Award (American Marketing Association, 2005)

Vincent Onyemah won The Seventh Annual Doctoral Dissertation Award with his dissertation entitled:

"Sensitivity of Salesperson's Performance to Incongruity in Control Systems: A Varying Parameter Model".

He also won the 2005 Beckwith Award for Teaching Excellence and Service to the Undergraduate Program (Boston University School of Management).

Paulo Prochno (Strategy)

The William. H Newman Award (Academy of Management, 2003)

The Academy of Management (2003) awards the William. H Newman Award for outstanding papers based on recent dissertations. This prestigious award can be given to up to three papers a year. Each paper must be: (a) single-authored and (b) based on a doctoral dissertation completed within the past three years.


Bart Bronnenberg (Marketing)

The Paul E. Green Award (American Marketing Association, 2003)

This annual award recognizes the best article in the Journal of Marketing Research (JMR) that demonstrates the greatest potential to contribute significantly to the practice of marketing research. It honors the S.S Kresge Professor Emeritus of Marketing at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Previous PhD Student Awards

Olivier Chatain (Strategy) was named a fellow in the 2003 Booz Allen Hamilton / SMS PhD Fellowship that honored the top 5 PhD students presenting papers during the 23rd Strategic Management Society International Conference.

This prize was awarded based on the evaluation of the paper:

"Shaping the Competitive Landscape: Preemptive Actions on Resources."
