Finance for Executives: Managing for Value Creation

Book
Today most finance textbooks tend to be either too advanced or too simplistic for many non-financial managers. Finance for Executives, however, represents a real breakthrough for those that want to explore this essential field in more depth. It fills the gap between introductory accounting and finance manuals and advanced textbooks in corporate finance.

The textbook is based on the principle that firms should be managed to increase shareholder wealth. The authors have written a practical and rigorous textbook used in graduate and undergraduate business courses. The material the book is based on has already been tested by over 2,000 managers from around the world.

The data used throughout the book comes from the same set of firms to reinforce the reader's understanding of the financial principles being illustrated. Written for the busy executive, the book can quickly be read or consulted as needed because most chapters are self-contained. Readers can test their new knowledge by completing the exercises following each chapter and comparing the answers with the step-by-step solutions at the end of the book.

The book is divided into five parts: Part 1 surveys the basic financial principles and tools, covering how to construct and interpret balance sheets and income statements; Part II reviews the techniques that executives use to assess a firm's financial health and how best to plan a firm's future development; Parts III and IV explore how managers can make investment decisions and financing decisions to maximise a firm's value. Finally Part V concludes with chapters on how to make value-creating business decisions.
