Making Strategy and Organization Compatible
Palgrave, January 2003
Claude Michaud and Jean-Claude Thoenig
Complex organizations are not only barriers protecting from imitation by competitors, they also are key assets whenever the firm wants at the same time to maximize short terms rents and prepare new mid terms rents. Headquarters have to manage cognitions inside the organization. Common languages for action imply specific skills. These skills become vital especially in firms adopting quasi-market mechanisms (not command and control ones) to structure the interfaces between their SBUs and between SBUs and headquarter.
