ISP is a set of Interactive Statistical Programmes which aims at improving and facilitating the teaching and learning of statistics. The ISP package can be used within statistics courses, or, alternatively, for self-paced individual learning of statistics, as a "refresher course" for those who have studied statistics before, or as a conventional computational tool with its accompanying reference manual for users of statistics.
ISP facilitates the learning of statistics by removing the burden of computation and enabling students to concentrate on the concepts involved. Moreover, provisions for working with real data (including data chosen by either the instructor or the student), sampling from data sets, conducting simulations, and experimenting with games of chance help to make statistics more interesting and give students a better understanding of the nature of uncertainty, sampling variability and statistical modelling.
The use of ISP requires no previous background in either statistics or computers, and the mathematics needed is minimal. The software is easy to use, completely interactive and user-friendly, and requires absolutely no programming. |
