Steve Hillegeist is an Assistant Professor of Accounting and Control at INSEAD.
He received his Ph.D. and Master of Science in Accounting degrees from the Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley. In addition, he received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics from Princeton University, where he was an Academic All-American in football.
Prior to arriving at INSEAD, he taught for seven years at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, where he received several teaching commendations. His teaching interests lie in analyzing information and incentives systems in order to design optimal incentive and transfer pricing policies.
Professor Hillegeist's research interests focus on three primary areas: (1) the determinants of firm's voluntary disclosure decisions and the effects of those decisions on the capital markets; (2) estimating the probability of bankruptcy using option pricing models; and (3) the causes and consequences of stock-based incentives. His research is published in top accounting journals, including the Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Accounting Review, and the Review of Accounting Studies. He serves as an ad hoc referee for a number of leading academic accounting journals.
Steve's interests outside of INSEAD include traveling, motorcycle touring, and dining with friends.
