Reto founded ADVAL CIC (S) PTE LTD, a Singapore-incorporated investment management and consulting company, in 1999. His main focus has always been on international investment projects (incl. M&A) and portfolio investments.
As an Angel Investor, he invested in high-tech, hospitality, service and e-commerce businesses. He has been a member of BANSEA, the Business Angels Network of South-East Asia, since its inception.
Reto has acted as advisor and mentor of entrepreneurs, founders of early stage companies, investment funds and foundations.
As a “pracademic” focusing on the study of entrepreneurship and the management of innovation, Reto has been a regular guest lecturer/instructor/discussant at universities and institutes of higher learning (e.g. Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Management University in Singapore (SMU); ISEMI Tel Aviv, Israel / Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia). His main interests lie on business models, strategy, C-level management, finance, investment/divestment decisions, and negotiations.
He has regularly served as a judge in business plan competitions – national, regional and international.
Reto has been associated with INSEAD as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence since 2005.
Throughout his business career of more than 30 years, Reto has been active in international banking and investments. Prior to setting up his own company, he had held various senior positions at Credit Suisse (e.g. Member of the Executive Committee of Credit Suisse Geneva, Member of the Executive Board and CEO Asia–Pacific of Credit Suisse Private Banking, Chairman of Credit Suisse Investment Consulting (Taiwan) Ltd.)
From 1973-1976 he served the National Research Council of Thailand as a Foreign Researcher, after having worked on a World Bank project in the Middle East before.
He holds a PhD from the University of Zurich and diplomas from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and IMD.
He is an active Rotarian and former Assistant Governor of Rotary International District 3310. Reto holds a Swiss passport and is a Permanent Resident of Singapore.
