Ioana Popescu is the Booz & Company Chaired Professor in Revenue Management and Associate Professor of Decision Sciences at INSEAD. She holds a PhD in Operations Research and in Applied Mathematics from MIT, and a BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from Wellesley College.
Professor Popescu is an expert in the area of pricing and revenue management. She investigates how firms should manage prices and capacity decisions to maximize profitability in uncertain market environments. Her recent work in behavioral operations explores how firms should manage these decisions in response to realistic, but not necessarily rational consumer behavior. Her broader research interests include robust optimization, moment problems and managerial motivation. Her research has appeared in leading academic journals (including Management Science, Operations Research, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Mathematics of Operations Research), and won several awards, including first prize in the INFORMS JFIG paper competition.
Professor Popescu is Associate Editor for Management Science, Operations Research and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, the leading journals in the field of management science and operations management. She has also served as guest editor for INFORMS Transactions on Education, as well as on the board of the Journal of Revenue and Pricing Management and on the board of the Revenue Management and Pricing Section of INFORMS.
At INSEAD, Professor Popescu has developed the first business course on Dynamic Pricing and Revenue Management for MBAs and Executives. She also teaches the Uncertainty, Data and Judgment core MBA course, executive education modules on Decision Making, and a PhD level course on Dynamic Programming. She has received the INSEAD Outstanding Teacher Award for MBA core courses and is a regular recipient of the Dean’s Commendation for Teaching Excellence in the MBA Program.
Ioana has been with INSEAD since 1999, first based in France, and now in Singapore.
