David Midgley joined INSEAD in 1999 as Professor of Marketing after holding the positions of Visiting Professor at the Anderson School, University of California, Los Angeles and Foundation Chair of Marketing and Head of the Marketing Area at the Australian Graduate School of Management, Sydney. From 2001 to 2005 he was Coordinator for the Marketing Area at INSEAD.

Professor Midgley is a graduate in science, management and marketing from the Universities of Salford and Bradford in England. He has been an invited scholar at Stanford Graduate School of Business, and has also taught at the Anderson School, UCLA and the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Professor Midgley has over 80 publications, including papers in leading international journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of International Business, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Marketing Science, Management Science and Organization Science. He was on the editorial board of the Journal of Consumer Research (University of Chicago Press) from 1983 to 1999 and is currently on the editorial board of the International Journal of Marketing (North-Holland).

He has extensive private sector consulting experience in Australia, Europe and North America including many projects for global corporations on current marketing issues. Professor Midgley was also Research Director for the Australian Federal Government's Industry Task Force on Leadership and Management Skills (the Karpin Committee). He is also the author of major reports on management development for the Australian National Training Board and international competitiveness for Austrade.
