William Maddux is an Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD. He is also co-director of the INSEAD Social Science Research Center (ISSRC) in Paris.
Professor Maddux conducts two primary lines of research. One line of research examines the psychology of diversity, in particular how national culture affects a variety of psychological process relevant to organizations, such as social perception, emotions, power, trust, and behavioral mimicry. This line of research also examines how experiences in foreign cultures impact creativity and innovation, and well as how stereotypes and prejudice affect cognition and behavior. A second line of research looks at the psychological variables (e.g., trust, mimicry, perspective-taking) that significantly impact the negotiation process. His research has appeared in peer-reviewed academic journals such as the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Psychological Science, and American Psychologist, as well as in Harvard's Negotiation Newsletter, the Sloan Management Review, and in media outlets such as The Economist, The Washington Post, The Globe and Mail, NPR news and Le Monde.
Professor Maddux teaches Leadership and Negotiations courses in the MBA program. He has also done executive education and consulting for companies such as PriceWaterhouse Coopers, NYSE/Euronext, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Professor Maddux holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Ohio State University, and a B.A. in Psychology from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining the faculty at INSEAD, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor and Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. A native of the United States, he has also lived and worked for several years in Japan. |
