William Maddux is an Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD. He is also co-director of the INSEAD Social Science Research Center (ISSRC) in Paris.

Professor Maddux is a social psychologist interested in the basic psychological principles that drive human behavior in an increasingly globalized society. His research is primarily driven by two underlying questions: 1) How does culture impact how we think, feel, and behave in the social world? 2) How can individuals more effectively manage conflict as the world becomes increasingly diverse? He looks at these phenomena broadly, from intrapersonal, interpersonal, and intergroup perspectives. His work on culture examines phenomena such as how cross-cultural experiences affect individuals' creativity, and how culture impacts social perception, emotions, trust, stereotypes, and behavioral mimicry. His work on negotiations looks at the psychological variables (e.g., trust, mimicry, perspective-taking) that significantly impact the negotiation process. His research has appeared in peer-reviewed academic journals such as the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Psychological Science, and American Psychologist, as well as in Harvard's Negotiation Newsletter, the Sloan Management Review, and in media outlets such as The Economist, The New York Times, BBC Radio, The Financial Times, The Washington Post, National Public Radio, US News & World Report, and Le Monde.

Professor Maddux teaches Leadership and Negotiations courses in the MBA program, and a course on Behavioral Sciences in the PhD program. He has also done executive education for the Advanced Managers Program and the International Executive Program at INSEAD, and for companies such as Takeda, NYSE/Euronext, Stibbe, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Professor Maddux holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Ohio State University, and a B.A. in Psychology from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining the faculty at INSEAD, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor and Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. A native of the United States, he has also lived and worked for several years in Japan.
