Social Innovation Revisited

About four years ago, our new dean asked me to set up a research centre bringing together all existing initiatives related to the role of business in society. The man had a clear vision: sustainable enterprise would become an important trend in the years ahead.

In response to the dean’s request, I set about amalgamating a number of more or less successful initiatives: our Health Management Initiative, the Sustainability Group (energy, environment, sustainable mobility, etc.), the Social Entrepreneurship Initiative, the Corporate Social Responsibility and Ethics Group, as well as my own Humanitarian Research Group. To this was added a new Africa Initiative, which aimed to devote more attention to the needs of the Dark Continent. While being quite a mixture of disparate themes and objectives, it was also a golden opportunity to move beyond the stereotyped pigeonholing of such initiatives and to look more comprehensively at complex, multidisciplinary problems with a group of highly motivated colleagues. Book "Global Challenges in Responsible Business"

Published on 31 July 2010 by Professor N. Craig Smith. Corporate responsibility has gone global. Global Challenges in Responsible Business addresses the implications for business of corporate responsibility in the context of globalisation and the social and environmental problems we face today. Featuring research from Europe, North America, Asia and Africa, it focuses on three major themes: embedding corporate responsibility, corporate responsibility and marketing, and corporate responsibility in developing countries. INSEAD Healthcare Alumni Summit 2010

On 8 October 2010, the INSEAD Healthcare Alumni Summit, will once again provide a unique networking forum for the global healthcare industry. At last year’s sold-out event, over 150 executives from 20 countries gathered to explore future trends in healthcare. In 2010, this interactive conference will take place at the historic “Maison des Arts & Métiers” in Paris. The Summit is organised by the INSEAD Healthcare Alumni Network, representing over 2000 INSEAD alumni working in the healthcare industry and related sectors. The conference will focus on the following themes: "Chronic Diseases–The Everyday Epidemic", "Emerging Economies–Catching Up or Leading The Way?", and there's the possibility to engage in workshops in smaller groups on topics such as "Social Media in Healthcare", "Market Access & Reimbursement", "Personalized Medicine", "Healthcare & International Aid" or "Private Providers of Healthcare Services". INSEAD Social Entrepreneurship Programme: A Thriving and Dynamic Global Network

Some of the most innovative social entrepreneurs from over 30 countries participated in INSEAD’s Social Entrepreneurship Programme (ISEP) In Fontainebleau and Singapore in 2009. Our flagship executive education programme experienced its strongest demand to date and benefited from an extraordinary pool of talent and diversity. Both the sessions received among the highest ratings of any INSEAD executive programme. Participants praised the programme with 96 percent rating it as very good or excellent. Read more in the evaluation report 2009. Registrations for next year are already being accepted, so if you're interested in attending ISEP in 2010, make sure to register early.

The dates for ISEP in 2010 are:
France: 15-19 November in Fontainebleau
Singapore: 29 November-3 December

Haiti Earthquake - INSEAD Humanitarian Research Group Continues to Track the Situation

INSEAD Professor Luk Van Wassenhove, Director of INSEAD's Social Innovation Centre, together with the Humanitarian Research Group Team, have been monitoring the crisis in Haiti since the 7.1 earthquake struck Tuesday 12 January 2010, including being in touch with relevant NGOs, companies and governments who are providing aid and support to the victims and the country. A Success Story! 5th ISEP Conference and Reunion: "Social Entrepreneurship for Social Change"

Change and Exchange were the keywords for the annual ISEP Conference and alumni Reunion which took place in Istanbul, Turkey on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 June 2010. The conference co-organised by INSEAD and Sabanci University, was set at Sabanci University's Museum with its breathtaking view of the historic Bosphorus and the western gateway to Asia less than a kilometer away. Over 240 people from both continents, as well as Africa, the Americas and the Middle East brought global and local perspective to social entrepreneurship. More information on the Conference and Reunion will be available soon.
