Professional experience:
Mr. Salamonsen spent the first years of his working life at the Internet Research & Development Unit and the BioInformatics Centre at the National University of Singapore (NUS) helping implement and manage the associated software development projects.
In 1999 he shifted to the commercial arena as a regional consultant for Borland Corporation working with companies to design and implement distributed, web based systems. It wasn't long before he switched companies to take a lead role in the delivery of Singapore's first "virtual" (i.e. online only) bank, a joint collaboration between European company first-e and Singapore's OUB bank. In this role he experienced first hand the rise and fall of the dot com era and the subsequent demise of Internet only banks as traditional bricks and mortar establishments rolled out competitive online channels, thus offering the best of both worlds.
Intrigued by the financial world, and with ideas formed in collaboration with a colleague and ex-banker David Hulme, he formed his own company Pay2Home in 2000 (www.pay2home.com). A specialist in the wholesale provision of cross-border payments and money transfer, Pay2Home has succeeded in raising over SG$5 million in capital and counts the Economic Development Board of Singapore among its shareholders. Using in-house developed, proprietary technology, Pay2Home currently facilitates payments to numerous countries around the world and has retail clients in both Singapore and Hong Kong.
Mr. Salamonsen and his co-founder Mr. Hulme were named Entrepreneurs of the Year by the Australian Chamber of Commerce (Singapore) in 2005.
