Professional experience:
A serial entrepreneur who started companies in both UK and Singapore, Dr Bernard Leong is currently the co-founder of Chalkboard where he currently serves as the chief technology officer and is instrumental in developing a mobile-web solution to help small and medium enterprises to market promotions. Prior to Chalkboard, Bernard was a founding partner in Thymos Capital LLP. In his stint as an early stage investor, he has guided his portfolio of companies mainly on product development and business strategies, follow-up investments (Lunch Actually - Eteract) and acquisition (iHipo). He has recently received the prestigious accolade of Young Professional of the Year from the Singapore Computer Society (SCS) IT Leader Awards 2010.
He started his career as an academic working in Cavendish Laboratory, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and Genome Institute of Singapore while he has published papers crossing a few different disciplines: theoretical physics, computational biology, economics and entrepreneurship. He has taught courses on entrepreneurship in Nanyang Technopreneurship Centre, NTU for the past three years. A technologist at heart, he spends some time in Hackerspace SG to work on new and interesting innovations.
He currently contributes as a writer on SGEntrepreneurs.com and also as a pundit on This Week in Asia, the premiere podcast dedicated to web/tech and mobile news in Asia which he has co-founded both online media enterprises.
