Are you innovation ready? |
|
In one of the most comprehensive studies ever conducted on innovation, eLab@INSEAD, in collaboration with Logica, surveyed two hundred CIO level business leaders from blue-chip organisations from both the public and private sectors across Europe, about their views on innovation, and more specifically collaborative innovation. The research shows that, although they claim to grant high priority to innovation, most companies are handicapped by low levels of innovation readiness. The final report was issued in English and French, and launched at three high level events organized respectively in London, Amsterdam and Paris in November-December 2009.

"e-Competences for Innovation" Event, 13-14 January 2010-Fontainebleau
|
|
To remain a world-wide leader in innovation, Europe needs to make the most of information and communication technology (ICT) and to build its talent pool of ICT professionals and of managers who are both IT and business savvy (i.e., managers who are e-competent). On 13 and 14 January, INSEAD is co-hosting with the European Commission (DG Enterprise and Industry), an exclusive event titled "Building e-Competences to Strengthen Innovation in Europe: The Roles of Industry, Academia, and Government".
The event marks the conclusion of the European e-Competences Curricula Guidelines Project – an European Commission funded project that INSEAD eLab has led on improving curricula to generate e-competences in Europe. We have conducted research (e.g., surveys and interviews of CIOs and universities) and developed a set of actions ("guidelines") for enhancing European curricula for building e-competences and strengthening the role of European universities in supplying ICT practitioners and
e-competent managers in Europe.
The purpose of the event is to present the findings of the project and to provide leaders from academia, industry, and government an opportunity to engage and discuss ways Europe can enhance its supply of e-competent practitioners and managers and consequently, strengthen its capacity to innovate.

| Global Information Technology Report 2008-2009 New |
The Report is produced by the World Economic Forum in cooperation with INSEAD, the leading international business school, and is sponsored again this year by Cisco Systems. Published for the eighth consecutive year with record coverage of 134 economies worldwide, the Report remains the world’s most comprehensive and authoritative international assessment of the impact of ICT on the development process and the competitiveness of nations.
The Networked Readiness Index (NRI), featured in the Report, examines how prepared countries are to use ICT effectively on three dimensions: the general business, regulatory and infrastructure environment for ICT; the readiness of the three key stakeholder groups - individuals, businesses and governments - to use and benefit from ICT; and their actual usage of the latest information and communication technologies available.
The NRI uses a combination of data from publicly available sources, as well as the results of the Executive Opinion Survey, a comprehensive annual survey conducted by the World Economic Forum with its network of Partner Institutes (leading research institutes and business organizations) in the countries included in the Report. The Survey provides unique data on many qualitative institutional and business environment issues.

| European Business Summit 2009 New |
“Who cares? Who dares? Providing the skills for an innovative and sustainable Europe”
Background paper prepared for the European Business Summit 2009
Without prompt and significant action to generate the required skills, much of Europe’s stimulus packages and past investment could be wasted. Skills are the critical success factor for competing in the knowledge economy. Without skills, investments in other resources, such as new technologies and infrastructure, collapse. Europe's supply of skills was already under threat before the financial crisis struck the region. Now, as governments and businesses scramble to cut costs, skills are under even greater threat.
Based on INSEAD eLab research, the purpose of "Who Cares? Who Dares?" is two-fold:
1. to call the attention of Europe’s government and business leaders to the vital importance of strengthening Europe's skills; and
2. to recommend a set of practical actions, organized around the theme of a ‘European Skills Pact’ (ESP).

| E-Skills, Competitiveness and Employability 2008-2009 |
The beginning of a new century has been accompanied by a number of a broad revisiting of what our societies could consider as bases for sustained and more equitable growth. Worldwide, this has led to placing knowledge and information at the centre of national and regional ambitions.
In Europe in particular, the so-called Lisbon Strategy has enhanced efforts to mobilize active economic and social forces around education, innovation and knowledge intensive sectors and activities such as information and communications technologies. At the same time, European institutions and national governments have pursued their efforts to deepen and strengthen a European social model whereby inequalities and exclusions are being addressed largely through higher levels of employability.
E-skills are the cornerstone of such an approach. Is Europe succeeding in generating or acquiring the skills it needs to build a leading and inclusive knowledge society? What is needed from governments, business and citizens to achieve this goal?
