Dr Franz B Humer is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roche Holding Ltd.

He graduated with a PhD in law from the University of Innsbruck and obtained his MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau.

He began his career at Schering Plough Corporation and for eight years, took on various positions including General Manager for Ecuador, the UK and Portugal.

From 1981 to 1995, he joined Glaxo Holdings and was appointed Managing Director of Glaxo Pharmaceuticals UK in 1987. He became a member of the board of Glaxo Holding plc in 1989 and was appointed Chief Operating Director of Glaxo worldwide (except USA) in 1992.

In 1995 he moved to Roche as head of the Pharmaceuticals Division. Dr Humer was appointed Chief Operating Officer in 1996, CEO of the Roche Group in 1998 and Chairman of Roche Holding in 2001. He is the non-executive chairman of the board for Diageo Plc, and a member of the Board Supervisors of Allianz AG.
