The road to recovery: a macroeconomic view on the crisis of 2008/09
In a very short period of time the economic environment changed beyond recognition with the world being entrapped in a vicious circle of deleveraging and falling asset values. After a battery of aggressive policy actions – some unorthodox and rather controversial – the global economy started showing signs of recovery. Will recovery start in 2009 or early 2010? To what extent will positive signs signal that we are indeed on a path towards a solid restoration of economic activity?
In this presentation, Professor Mihov will look at the developments in the world economy over the past decade and after a brief review of the key features of the crisis, he will present scenarios for the global economy for the next few months. Part of the discussion will focus on what is needed in order to ensure that the global economy becomes more resilient.

Debunking career management myths – straight talking from a headhunter
Books giving career advice abound, offering sound recommendations to achieve extraordinary careers. They focus primarily on the building blocks of professionalism, and include recommendations such as working hard, looking for opportunities to shine on cross-functional projects, taking initiative, aligning with wise mentors, hiring and developing a strong group of subordinates, and finding one's true passion.
In this presentation, Fabrice Desmarescaux will assume that all these basic techniques are well known, understood, and practiced by all the participants. In his usual direct and outspoken style, he will use his extensive recruiting, coaching, and teaching experience as well as his recent research on executive happiness to debunk a few career myths and offer practical perspectives to junior and senior executives in Asia.

The momentum effect: the secrets of efficient growth
The global economic crisis that emerged in 2008 has exposed multiple weaknesses in the way management has evolved. It calls for business leaders to adopt new attitudes and new strategic paradigms that privilege efficient growth as a paramount objective. Among the key lessons from this crisis is indeed a strong reminder that the fundamental driver of business wellness is undoubtedly efficient and sustainable growth. Unfortunately, the way most large corporations generate growth is expensive and inefficient. Over the last decades, firms have made great efficiency improvements in many areas including operations, procurement, administration, organization, and business processes. Unfortunately, the single area where huge inefficiencies still prevail is the most important one and concerns growth generation. This involves in particular the combination of innovation activities, customer focus, marketing, and sales.
In this session, Professor Jean-Claude Larréché reveals the secret to delivering growth that is both efficient and sustainable. His framework for Momentum Strategy is based on three research streams involving hundreds of firms. It is a powerful tool to mobilize management teams and employees on critical growth drivers such as customer insights, power offers and stakeholders engagement and is based on his recent book “The Momentum Effect”.
