The International Leadership Association Honours INSEAD Professor with Lifetime Achievement Award

Manfred Kets de Vries recognised for his contributions to the field of leadership

Fontainebleau, France and Singapore, 19 November 2008 - INSEAD, the leading international business school, today announced that Manfred Kets de Vries was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Leadership Association (ILA).  For the first time, this prestigious organisation honoured founding professionals in the development of leadership as a field and as a discipline.  Kets de Vries, Director of the INSEAD Global Leadership Centre (IGLC), is considered one of the world’s leading thinkers on management and has over 30 years of teaching experience in organisational behaviour and leadership studies.

The ILA inducted six individuals who have made significant and diverse contributions to the field of leadership during its 10th annual conference last week. Kets de Vries was inducted alongside a group of leadership trailblazers, including Warren Bennis, James MacGregor Burns and Frances Hesselbein; Bernard Bass and Joseph Rost were honoured posthumously.  Their portraits will be displayed on the newly-created Legacy Wall at the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership at the University of Maryland.

‘Manfred Kets de Vries is a true pioneer in the field of leadership and we are delighted to acknowledge his lifetime achievements with this award,’ said Shelly Wilsey, Director of the International Leadership Association. ‘His exemplary work has been instrumental in the development and continued advancement of global leaders,’ added Cynthia Cherrey, President of the ILA.

Kets de Vries, who founded the IGLC in 2003, has spearheaded the development of innovative programmes to meet the growing demand for global leadership and cross-cultural research. He says it is increasingly vital that organisations build their executives’ leadership capabilities and encourage participants to leverage their skills, vision and entrepreneurial acumen in order to create results-driven, sustainable organisations by putting people first.

Professor Kets de Vries teaches courses in Leadership/Entrepreneurship, Career Dynamics, Executive Stress, Family Business and Succession Planning, Cross-Cultural Management and Team Building. He holds the Raoul de Vitry d'Avaucourt Chair of Leadership Development at INSEAD and is a founding member of the International Society for the Psychoanalytic Study of Organisations.
