INSEAD builds a virtual campus on Second Life

INSEAD is building its third campus on Second Life, a three dimensional virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. The virtual campus, complete with reception areas, information points, amphi space, research laboratories, lounge and bars, has been designed to offer another level of learning environment where participants from around the world can collaborate in real-time and learn from the diverse experience of INSEAD's faculty.

Leading the development of INSEAD's virtual campus, Associate Professor of Marketing, Miklos Sarvary tells us about the campus, its design, the benefits it offers and its future use. Read on.

About Second Life
Second Life was created by Linden Lab, founded in 1999 by Philip Rosedale, company CEO. As mentioned above, It has been entirely built and is owned by its residents, who access this virtual universe in the form of an Avatar (a virtual person) who can explore the endless activities and opportunities this virtual universe has to offer, such as buying land, opening businesses, building property, going to cinemas, museums, shopping and of course meeting and communicating with other people.

As of today, Second Life has a population of over seven million Avatars from 100 countries around the world. Launched in 2003
