On 24 April 2007 INSEAD presented the First Annual Award for Transcultural Leadership during a gala dinner in New York City. John Thain and Jean-François Théodore of NYSE Euronext were honoured for global business excellence with more than 200 corporate supporters, alumni and friends in attendance.
INSEAD established this award to honour those who combine traditional business leadership with a unique understanding of other cultures to forge strategic growth for their organisations. John Thain and Jean-François Théodore were selected as the recipients for their twin-pillared leadership approach in the creation of the first truly global financial marketplace.

As companies expand globally, there is a greater need for leaders who have the experience and the mindset to work in and across different cultures. NYSE Euronext is an example of one such company that has formed as a result of the globally minded leadership of John Thain and Jean-François Théodore. The exchange now spans different time zones and currencies, opening the way for other organisations to gain international visibility as capital markets around the world consolidate.

The evening was hosted by INSEAD and moderated by Rick Smith, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Newsweek. Stephanie Lim MBA '05D enthusiastically spoke to the audience about the unique experience of studying on three continents and learning from classmates from every region of the world.
