New MBA Elective

New MBA Elective
'Building Business in Asia'

Between April 30th and May the 5th, 25 MBA participants will travel to India with Professor Philip Anderson for the initial offering of a new MBA elective, 'Building Businesses in India'.

This elective will offer INSEAD's MBA participants the opportunity to see how Indian entrepreneurs build companies. It focuses on three questions:

  • What opportunities and obstacles face those who would like to build a company in India? How does an entrepreneur build a growth venture in India?
  • How does the context shape growth ventures coming out of India? What characteristics and mindsets will be encountered in the next great generation of Indian companies that grow out of today’s ventures?
  • What ideas can be borrowed from India's entrepreneurs that can help you build a company or work effectively with company builders wherever you go in your career?

Building Businesses in India is designed to help INSEAD MBA's understand what kind of companies will come out of India's entrepreneurial explosion, how the Indian context will shape the great enterprises to be founded in India over the next ten or twenty years. It is targeted at those who are considering starting companies themselves, who want to understand what kind of advantages and opportunities India will be able to offer. It is also meant for those who want to understand what makes fast-growing Indian enterprises tick because those firms will provide investment opportunities for, acquire, supply, purchase from, act as channels for, partner, and compete with non-Indian firms.

Thanks to the efforts of INSEAD's many alumni and friends in India, we have a stellar lineup of visitors who are at the center of cases or members of panels.

Key topics include:

  • How the scions of traditional Indian business families are designing technology ventures
  • How the Indian business model is evolving from services to innovation
  • How "born global" Indian companies are different from those that grow domestically, then internationally
  • How Indian enterprises manage rapid growth that takes them from zero to thousands of employees in a few short years
  • How the Indian ecosystem supporting startups works
  • How Indian entrepreneurs manage businesses based on talent, India's foremost competitive advantage
  • How Indians are creating new management and business models for social ventures.

Alumni who will be in Bangalore between April 30th and May the 2nd or in Mumbai between May 3rd and May the 5th are welcome to contact Aparna.Dogra@insead.edu for a detailed schedule.

Based on the availability of seats, alumni are welcome to participate in selected sessions. We are planning to hold cocktails for alumni on the 30th of April in Bangalore and the 4th of May in Mumbai to provide an opportunity for you to meet our MBA's and friends of INSEAD, and vice versa.
