Financial Times, UK, 16 July, “Comment: Europe: a piquant recipe for a Silicon Valley
Frank Brown, INSEAD Dean and Esko Aho, President of Finnish innovation fund, Sitra and former prime Minister, write on behalf of the Science-Business Innovation Board. They call for a rethink on “cluster” policy – dynamic companies around leading universities - to create a Silicon Valley in Europe. They suggest the EU designate a new legal status to just a few existing clusters and they are developed as Special Innovation Zones for Europe. Click here.

The Economic Times, India, 11 July, "Innovation:  Asia's edge over others"
Report on the findings of the INSEAD Asia Innovation Policy Study.  The study covers areas such as the role of government, the speed to market, the protection of intellectual property rights and attracting international players. It also points out that to encourage IT innovation and foreign direct investments, Asian governments need to have a sound policy and a legal regime in place. Available on request.

Business Times, Singapore, 28 July, “Survey gives high marks to S’pore CIOs”
A look at the results of a survey of Chief Information Officers in the Asean region carried out by INSEAD and IBM. Soumitra Dutta, INSEAD Dean of External Relations, says CIOs feel they are valued as more ASEAN organisations see the strategic importance of IT for their businesses. However, the survey found significant differences between Asean CIOS and their global counterparts – the findings suggest Asean CIOs are highly conscious of the need to ‘prove’ themselves.

La Gaceta de los Negocios, Spain, 7 July, ‘’INSEAD and LBS are more global; IESE and Esade are more Spanish’’
After visiting several business schools in Spain and Europe, an investigator from Wharton explains that rankings are not relevant as some business schools are better in one field than the other. But to the question of the existence of a real global business school, INSEAD is the closest ‘Although it is based in France, it is not focused on France but is really international.’ Available on request.

Le Figaro, France, 7 July, ‘’Business schools stake in executive education’’
The most famous business schools offer training for managers as a way to conciliate prestige and efficiency. Denis Lapert (INT Management) explains: ‘INSEAD, ESCP-EAP, HEC and Essec, alone, represent half of the market of management executive education in France offered by business schools.’ Available on request.

Businessworld, the Philippines, 23 July, “Marketing educator trailblazing the industry (Swimming in the ‘Blue Ocean’ with Josiah Go)’’
Josiah Go, the first and only Blue Ocean – qualified strategist in the Philippines – holds two-day Blue Ocean Strategy Executive Boot camps.  Together with a colleague, he’ll present various never-before-seen case studies on September 2 in Makati. He says Blue Ocean Strategy was conceived by two brilliant professors at INSEAD and is unlike traditional marketing or strategic planning. Available on request.

Gulf Business, July 2008, “Leadership: Cultural Capital in the C-Suite” 
Article by Frank Brown, INSEAD Dean, on the importance of developing trans-cultural leaders with acute insight into their global marketplace. He also stresses that it’s essential for U.S. companies to have more culturally diverse board members. “As our economy becomes more global, the need for corporations to develop leaders who can navigate risk, expand into new markets and operate with an international perspective has never been more apparent,” he says. Computerworld, Singapore, 24 July, “Hold on to your people”
According to an INSEAD and IBM study of ASEAN Chief Information Officers,  retaining staff is a key issue in the region. Bruno Lanvin, INSEAD Executive Director of eLab, who ran the survey, says the survey’s overall results are in line with global trends.

Globe and Mail, Canada, August, ‘’Reinventing Canada’s Political Circus’’
This article, featured in Canada’s largest national newspaper, considers how the successful implementation of Blue Ocean Strategy in reinventing the circus industry could also be applied to Canadian politics. Preston Manning, President and CEO of the Manning Center for Building Democracy, underlines the similarities between the declining circus industry, describes in the book Blue Ocean Strategy, and current democratic politics in Canada.
